Building strong online relationships

Building strong relationships are key to building strong teams and better outcomes.

But it’s not surprising to hear that during the pandemic, many colleagues found that communicating mainly through video conferencing are less close than those that meet face to face.

We also read that  there is a decline in innovation and social connection. This may be because it’s harder to understand on screen nonverbal cues and to listen intently to what others are saying online.

It really is harder connect on a human level when they are just on screen. But here are two ways you can try to build stronger relationships when most interactions are online:

  1. Allow ‘human to human’ space on calls

Work hard to interact in a way that allows you to build genuine, meaningful relationships

  2. Engage outside of work on similar interests

We tend to move in similar circles and may have similar interests, find them and connect through other channels
