Why cultivating a sense of wonder can benefit your life

There are many ways to describe what ‘wonder’ is.

It could be a feeling of childlike delight, amazement, and admiration at the natural state of the world. It can refer to that feeling of grateful awe in the smaller things in life. It also drives that natural feeling of wanting to know more about the world around you, like a young child with a curious mind.

Wonder gives you a positive feeling and makes you pause in appreciation for those things like nature that are ‘greater’ than you are.

In this piece, we break down the importance of wonder and why we should keep seeking for it.

Having a sense of wonder helps us put our place in the world into perspective.

What you might deem as a dire situation in the moment will pass,  flowers will continue to bloom and birds will continue to chirp in the morning - and none of the things we are worrying about now will matter in time.

So, remember that there are simpler things in life that deserve our attention too, don’t play down what brings sparkle in your life no matter how small they may be - whether it's your admiration for the way sunlight hits the plants in your living room, or the smell of your favourite cuppa from across the street.

Being curious about the world around you pushes you to continuously level up your personal growth.

Once you acknowledge and accept that you’re but a speck  in the universe, you will realise a world of possibilities are  open to  you - whether it’s a new skill, a new social circle, or even a new favourite dish.

So continue developing yourself as an individual and watch how opportunities you deserve open up for you.

Feeling jaded or becoming a cynic  can be kept at bay  when you constantly activate your sense of wonder.

While exposing yourself to more possibilities will lead to a greater appreciation for more around us, it will also naturally push you outside of your comfort zone.

Always wanted to learn the cello as a kid? How about going rafting? With a sense of wonder, you’ll wait for no perfect time or company to do things you’ve always wanted to do.

So here is a reminder to expand your mind by saying ‘yes’ to something you’ve been putting off out of fear and watch yourself break out of your routine.

Perhaps this may seem like a ‘trivial’ concept compared to what we face each day but we promise you, make a little time to explore this idea of bringing a little ‘wonder’ back in your life and see what happens.
